Bamana Suruku mask, Mali

A Suruku hyena mask, Kore society, from the Bamana people in Mali. Glass pieces as eyes. Some remnant of old native glue on forehead possibly for cowry shells or seeds, since long time lost on the mask. Nice patina.

Provenance: Collection artist Hardy Strid (1921-2012), bought 1979 from Tribal Art dealer Jan Lundberg, Malmö, Sweden.
