A classic 19th Century Bete mask.

Provenance: Rolf de Maré (1888-1964) Swedish art collector and leader of the Ballets Suédois in Paris 1920-1925. In 1933 he founded the world´s first dance museum (AID) in Paris. He started the Dance museum in Stockholm 1953. He travelled during his life all over the world to document dances, collect art and dance related items for his museums and his private collections. This mask was bought in Paris 1920-1930´s. Bengt Häger (1916-2011) Dance critic and writer from 1940, Director of Les Archives internationals de la Dance (AID) in Paris 1947-1950. Started together with Rolf de Maré the Dance Museum in Stockholm 1953 and was the director of the Museum 1953-1989. Rolf de Maré had no family and Bengt Häger got through Rolf de Marés will all private collections of Rolf de Maré. After the death of Bengt Häger inherited Richard Häger born 1964, Musician and conductor his fathers and Maré´s collections. We acquired the mask from Richard Häger.
