A stunning necklace with over 130 cone shell discs attached to plant fibre weave with nasa shells attached to the rim. Important status and wealth object. In New Guinea , ornaments may be worn variously on the body. A necklace might also be worn as head dress, a belt, or even a cache-sex. This type of necklaces was also used as currency. it comes from East Sepik area, Papua New Guinea. Age early to mid 20th Century.

Provenance: Doctor Bertil Örndahl (1923-2012). Örndahl worked as a doctor in many countries and travelled a lot in Africa, SE Asia and PNG in the 1960´s and collected many items during his travels.
