Large Katoua Club, Niue island, Oceania, 19th century.

A early and in form classic very long 19th century Katoua club from Niue Island. Made in a light colored hard wood. The patina is hard and dry and honey colored. Very good condition with a pair of insect caused small holes. Niue is a small island between Tonga and the Cook islands. Katoua clubs is ritually important on Niue Island and was 2015 chosen as motive on a stamp in New Zealand.
