San Juan Pueblo redware vessel with four ear handles and pierced crosses in the body, very fine shiny metallic luster (Micaceous slip). Excellent condition.
Provenance: Gustaf and Anna Retzius bought this piece 1893 from Jake Gold in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Donated it 1919 to the Swedish Royal Science Academy. The Academy sold it at auction 2014. Gustaf Retzius, 1842-1919 was anatomist, ethnographer and anthropologist. He was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science between 1901 and 1919. He donated over 700 native American objects bought on the USA & Canada travel 1893-1894 to the Swedish Ethnographic Museum.
