A rare type of Dhal shield from North India. Lightly domed form and composed of fibre cording woven on a metal weft with iron rim. Geometric darkbrown stripe design. Four beautiful iron bosses. Original grip and cushion in good condition.

Provenance: Rolf de Maré (1888-1964) Swedish art collector and leader of the Ballets Suédois in Paris 1920-1925. In 1933 he founded the world´s first dance museum in Paris. He opened the Dance Museum in Stockholm 1953. He travelled during his life all over the world to document dances, collect art and dance related items.
